Pure Energy is an R&B/Dance/Funk group consisting of lead vocalist, Lisa Stevens-Crowder, bass guitarist, Raymond Hudson and lead guitarist/vocalist, Curtis Hudson. The group formed in the mid-seventies and released its first album in 1980 with the self-titled LP, Pure Energy. The group’s first single, Party On, climbed up the dance charts to Number 7 on the Billboard Dance Charts. They released several other singles from 1982-1984, that charted and were very well received. Pure Energy’s hit single, Love Games was covered by the British group, Five Star in 1985. The members of the group wrote and produced the majority of the songs with Curtis Hudson contributing to most of the writing and arrangements. Members of the group were also writers and producers for other artists, including Jean Carne, Maxine Singleton, Lauriece Hudson, Hot Streak and Wandra Rawlings. In 1983, group members Lisa Stevens-Crowder and Curtis Hudson wrote the classic hit, Holiday for Madonna, which helped to propel her into super stardom. That same year Curtis wrote and produced the smash hit, Body Work, for the group, Hot Streak which appeared on the multi-platinum sound track of the movie, Breakin’. That same song would go on to be a smash hit once again when sampled by Missy Elliott in her 2005 release of Lose Control. Curtis Hudson also co-wrote the song, Remember Us for artist John Legend, which earned Legend a Grammy for best R&B artist in 2021. With his son, Eric Hudson, Curtis also co-wrote two songs on the Isley Brothers’ new album, Make Me Say It Again Girl. Since the eighties Pure Energy has had a strong fan base in the US and Europe and with the release of their new single, Midnight Magic, the group hopes to garner a new generation of fans.
